Athanasios Giannoukas (Greece)

Athanasios Giannoukas, MSc, MD, PhD, FEBVS (born in Larissa on 01/11/1961) is Professor of Vascular Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Thessaly, Greece, and Founder & Chairman of the Department of Vascular Surgery, University Hospital of Larissa, Greece. He is also Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, University of Thessaly in Larissa, Greece (2018-2020).

Prof. A. Giannoukas is Founding Member of the European Venous Forum, Secretary General (2000-2017) & President (2017-2018) and President of the Balkan Venous Forum (2016-2019). Member of the Editorial Board of EJVES (2005-2010), International Angiology (2012-today), Journal of Endovascular Therapy (2012-today). Councilor of ESVS (2014-2016). He is an Honorary Member of the Serbian Society for Cardiovascular Surgery (2018).

He is Founding Member and Chairman of Institute of Vascular Diseases (IVD) Greece (2010-today) and Chairman of Advisory Committee in the organization of LIVE Symposium.

Prof. A. Giannoukas is Director of 2 MSc courses of the University of Thessaly: “Advanced Ultrasonic Functional Imaging And Research for Prevention and Diagnosis of Vascular Diseases” (2015-today) and “Deontology and Ethics in Biomedical Sciences” (2019).

He has over 240 publications (citations: 3924 & H-index: 34) in scientific journals and has written and edited 6 books and 37 book chapters.

He has participated in several research programs as Principal Investigator (13) and supervisor in 9 Doctoral Theses (5 completed), member of Guidelines Committees (5), reviewer in international scientific journals (19) and has been visiting professor in 5 universities (Europe and USA).

He has received 24 prizes, awards and scholarships.
